Day 1: Kampala–Semuliki National Park
This wildlife tour to Semuliki starts from Kampala. After breakfast, get on a fascinating drive through papyrus swamps and thick jungle of the Nile Delta to Semuliki National Park just above the Rwenzori Mountain ranges. Get your afternoon lunch in Fort Portal and get ready to take on a guided walk through the crater lakes area and a visit to the ‘Amabeere Ga Nyinamwiru‘ caves.
The Sempaya hot springs are Semuliki’s most famous attraction. The ‘male’ springs, known as Bintente, measure 12m in diameter and are set in a lush, swampy clearing. The ‘female’ spring Nyasimbi, meaning ‘the female ancestors,’ is a boiling geyser (103°C) that spurts bubbling water and steam of up to two meters high. The steam cloud can be seen from as far as 2 km away. Local people used to cook food in these boiling pools.
Day 2: Wildlife Tour Semuliki National Park
Get on a morning boat ride along Lake Albert for a huge birding opportunity, including the Shoebill hunt. Look out for the Blue Swallow, White-throated Blue Swallow, Swamp Palm Bulbul, Spotted Greenbul, White-starred Robin, and Lowland Akalat, among others.
Thereafter, a game drive en route to the Semuliki National Park shall reward you. Semuliki National Park is home to forest elephants and buffalos, which are smaller versions of their savannah-dwelling relatives. It is also home to over 53 mammals, of which 27 are large mammals. 11 species are endemic to the park, including the pygmy antelope and two flying squirrel species. It is also home to the peculiar water chevrotain, known as the “fanged deer.”.
Return back to Kampala via the Mubende-Mityana road with lunch en route at your choice of restaurant or hotel. You will then proceed to Kampala and then Entebbe International Airport for your evening flight back home or to your next destination.
