This tour is ideal for mountain gorillas and chimpanzee trekking experiences in Uganda, the best destination for primate’s safari in the world. You can choose to start from Kampala or Entebbe and end in Kigali if you are flying out or return to Kampala depending on your preferences. It is a short drive of 3 to 4 hours to Kigali city. Ask our experts for advice for your long-awaited primate trekking trip. Primates’ safaris like this one are an experience that allows you to spend one full hour in the presence of habituated gorillas and habituated chimpanzees. Primate experience as been regarded as a one-in-a-lifetime experience.
Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Kibale National Park
Early today, you will be picked up from the airport in Entebbe and start a scenic drive through the countryside to Kibale National Park, famous for wild chimpanzee trekking. You will be traveling through the green countryside and lunch will be en route. On arrival, depending on the time, you can do a Bigodi Swamp walk where you will encounter monkeys and many tropical birds. You can also visit the Bigodi community to learn about the daily lifestyle of the people neighboring the park. You will be exposed to the local coffee brewing and more.
Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking and transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
After an early breakfast, we will drive to the offices of the world-famous primate capital Kibale National Park for a briefing about trekking chimpanzees. Here, we will spend several hours tracking and observing wild chimps on foot with your expert local ranger guides who personally know the troop members and who will interpret their behaviour. Kibale Forest is home to 13 species of primates. On your return, undertake a scenic drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, arriving in the evening.
Day 3: Gorilla trekking experience in Bwindi impenetrable forest national park
After breakfast, we will assemble at the national park’s offices for a detailed briefing before heading out on foot to track mountain gorillas with guides from the local community. This exclusive experience is a real privilege, as group sizes are limited and only one group is allowed to view each gorilla family per day. Viewing permits are thus almost as scarce as the gorillas! On occasion, the gorillas prove elusive but can often be found within an hour or more by the expert local tracker guides.
It is a very emotionally moving once-in-a-lifetime experience to stare into the eyes of these gentle giants and watch them play and go about their daily activities. Each encounter with the gorillas is different and has its own rewards, but you are likely to enjoy the close view of adults feeding, grooming and resting as the young frolic and swing from vines in a delightfully playful display. On your return, you will be issued a trek certificate and drive to your lodge for relaxation.
Day 4: Transfer from Bwindi to Entebbe
Today, after an early breakfast, you will proceed on your journey to Entebbe Airport for your departure trip back home. You will have an en-route lunch at the equator line in Kayabwe and can take photos to keep as memories. You will arrive in the evening and proceed to your lodge or Entebbe airport for your transfer.
Tour Reviews
The sightseeing and activities were better than we even thought! I still can’t believe we did so much in such a short time, but we did not feel stressed. We really loved the tour and would do it all over again in a minute! Thanks.
